The Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is devoted to providing fair and equitable treatment for all, as well as equal access to the opportunities and resources available. To this end, the district has implemented a range of initiatives to boost student enrollment in higher education institutions, such as the Future Bound Miami Children's Savings Account (CSA) program. This free savings tool with incentives is available to eligible kindergarten students attending M-DCPS. Additionally, the district has partnered with the University of Miami (Florida) to create the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Research Partnership Program (RPP).The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted systemic inequities in the K-12 education system, prompting communities to rethink how they serve students and redesign their education systems.
Through collaborative community-based research, RPP network teams are gathering data to inform educational improvement beyond the pandemic. The district is also working with the Future Educators of America club at the University of Miami to lead a business initiative in January 2021. M-DCPS is also offering Technical and Professional Education (CTE) programs in high-demand sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, and more. As part of the RPP Network on COVID-19 and Equity in Education, communities are forming diverse RPP teams that include educators, community members, and higher education research partners. For instance, Lindsay Unified School District's RPP community research is examining the experience of students and families in the K-12 education system to guide the implementation of a regional initiative against intergenerational poverty. The district is committed to providing equitable access to educational opportunities for all students.
